Hi All, As has been tradition for several years now, marking the beginning of the new academic year we welcome our good friend saxophonist Felipe Salles as our guest soloist. Besides being a wonderfully accomplished jazz player, Felipe is also a dedicated educator and a prolific composer. In early 2018 Felipe became a Guggenheim Foundation Composition Fellow and a recording of his latest large scale composition, The Lullaby Project, is now available for sale.  http://www.sallesjazz.co m Felipe always uses this opportunity to bring many of his music students from UMASS to join in at the end of the concert set making the jam session especially exciting. After the first week of the semester the students get involved with their ensemble practices so this is the one opportunity each year to bring them all together at the Workshop. Always a nice night so hope you can join us. Upcoming Guest Artists: 9/4  -  Felipe Salles on saxes 9/...

Hi All, We have a special treat in store for us all next week; special because our guest soloist, clarinetist Giacomo Smith, born in Italy, raised in upstate NY and now living and working in London since 2011 will be fronting the trio on Tuesday. One of our regular audience members saw Giacomo at Django In June this year and said you just have to get him. Since he has family in Saratoga Springs, NY, I wrote him and, voila! Trained classically, he started focusing on jazz, trad and contemporary, while in London and has since reordered several CD's and worked in all the major London clubs. I guarantee you will be amazed by what sounds he can get from that little instrument; a full range of tones and dynamics and all done masterfully and musically. Can't wait and hope you can join us.   Also, the  Vermont Jazz Center  just released their new seasons schedule of concerts and it's packed with some great artists. The first offering is Etienne Charl...

Hi All, Thanks Again to Cindy Scott and Brian Seeger. Great folks playing wonderful music. I promised I would have them back for asparagus season next yer. I guess that's not something they have in New Orleans. This week we are looking forward to the yearly visit from saxophonist and flutist Mark Lewis. Mark's career started in Washington state, moved to Rotterdam, Holland for many years, then to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he worked with many of my old friends and now back to Seattle. Throughout that time he has written over 700 tunes and played and recorded with hundreds of musicians. Mark loves life and music and is the most positive cat I've ever met and it comes out beautifully in his playing and his compositions. Please join us  on Tuesday  and stick around for the jam session that immediately follows the concert set.  http://marklewismusic.com /bio/ Upcoming Guest Artists: 8/14 - Mark Lewis on ...

Hi All, We are thrilled to welcome back for their second appearance at the Workshop Cindy Scott and Brian Seeger. Cindy has been living, teaching and performing for many years in New Orleans where she met and teamed up with Brian. She just recently started teaching full time at Berklee in Boston so is now a Beantown resident. Her style is eclectic but she is a real deal jazz singe for surer. Her repertoire spans a wide variety of styles, moods and intensities. Can't wait to play with her again. Here's a quote from her bio: “She has the serious jazz chops that enable her to improvise on a dime on whatever chord changes are thrown her way… the highest praise of all, she really doesn't sound like anyone else.”  - Tom McDermott, Offbeat Magazine, HBO's  Treme      http://cindyscottmusic.com/ Brian Seeger, dubbed “One of New Orleans’ best jazz guitarists,” by Gambit Weekly, is on the forefront of the New Orleans music scene. His performa...
