NORTHAMPTON JAZZ WORKSHOP NEWS

Featuring NYC saxophone and flutist Don Braden Tuesday, Feb. 12th from 7:30 to 8:30
Hi All,
This week we have a special treat. Leading the band will be the great saxophonist, flutist, composer and educator Don Braden. Don was one of the headliners at the Jazz Festival last year and is the founder and director of the Litchfield Jazz Camp. (http://www.donbraden.com/index.html).
Also joining us will be NYC master drummer Steve Johns who will be filling in for Jon. Among other things, Steve was a member of the Billy Taylor Trio for many years. (http://www.stevejohnsjazz.com).

This week will also be the second installment of the Allen Davis Jazz in the Schools Program coordinated by the Jazz Workshop and the Northampton Jazz Festival. On Monday evening, the 11th, the quartet will teach a two hour long workshop at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Northampton to their 8th grade jazz band and then give a school wide assembly the next morning. The students will also be invited to participate in the regular jam session that follows our Tuesday night concert. There are two more similar events planned for this year; one more at JFK in May and one in March at Northampton High School as part of the newly created Elliot Ross Jazz In the Schools Program named and funded in memorium to a young local musician who sadly passed last year. It is our hope to continue both these programs for many years to come.
If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution to help sustain this program you can send checks to Northampton Jazz Festival, P.O. Box 631, Northampton, MA 01061 or visit the Festival website:  northamptonjazfest.org
(Please indicate this is for Jazz In The Schools).

The concert set starts at 7:30, followed immediately by the jam session until 10:30. $5 per person room charge for the concert set. City Sports Grille at Spare Time Northampton, 525 Pleasant St., Northampton, MA. 413-584-4830
