At the movies: Barbershop: The Next Cut
 
 
Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer are reunited in Barbershop: The Next Cut, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the cousin of filmmaker Spike Lee (The Best Man films, Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins). This movie sets the action in Chicago – and names the fight – a war on violence. 
 
 

Dick Gregory - John Legend:
New play  in NYC - Turn Me Loose
Turn Me Loose, a new comedic drama by Gretchen Law with thanks to Ted Terry about the life of comedian and civil rights activist, Dick Gregory, will open Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre (407)West 43rdStreet) on May 19, 2016.
 

 

MIT’s 6th  Africa Innovate Conference was held at the MIT Media Lab
and included a base of students, faculty, and vendors who are focused on the future of Africa.

TC ECKSTEIN CAFE TV NEXT SPOTLIGHT CELEBRITY: Ruth Carter is a Hollywood costume designer who grew up in Springfield. Her career spans a long list of major motion pictures, and she is best known for her work on Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" and Steven Spielberg's "Amistad," receiving Academy Award nominations for both films. Carter's most recent work can be seen in "Selma," a film about the trio of marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965. "I first started as an intern in the costume shop at StageWest and did everything from crafts to sewing and working backstage," said Carter, about her time at Springfield's best-known playhouse now called City Stage. While she learned to sew on her mother's old sewing machine, that wasn't the thing that propelled her into costume design.
