Northampton MA Jazz Workshop features vocalist Eshu Bumpus and saxophonist Jason Robinson Tuesday, January 16th, 7:30 to 8:30PM followed by an open jazz jam until 10:30 PM at the The City Sports Grille at Spare Time Northampton, 525 Pleasant St., Northampton.

Hi All,
On Tuesday the 16th we welcome vocalist and story teller Eshu Bumpus along with saxophonist Jason Robinson. We will be honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by playing songs related to the struggle for equality and freedom; specifically songs that came from the jazz artists of that time who were deeply moved by the struggle. Eshu, besides being a great story teller, specializing in African folk tales is also a gifted singer who's musical heart is rooted in jazz. We will be doing songs by Charles Mingus, Billy Taylor, Les McCann, Miles Davis and others. I hope you can join us for a very special concert and stay around for the jam that follows.

Hi All, It's been over a year since we last featured the great jazz bassoonist Michael Rabinowitz as our guest soloist. TC ECKSTEIN CAFE TV NEXT SPOTLIGHT CELEBRITY: Ruth Carter is a Hollywood costume designer who grew up in Springfield. Her career spans a long list of major motion pictures, and she is best known for her work on Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" and Steven Spielberg's "Amistad," receiving Academy Award nominations for both films. Carter's most recent work can be seen in "Selma," a film about the trio of marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965. "I first started as an intern in the costume shop at StageWest and did everything from crafts to sewing and working backstage," said Carter, about her time at Springfield's best-known playhouse now called City Stage.
